Autumn is the most difficult season for hair so it is important to moisturize and nourish it more than usual, even with natural DIY treatments that we can prepare comfortably at home. A pre-wash mask, to be applied once a week, is ideal for regaining shine, vigor and manageability.

For dry hair we can make a mask based on oil and honey. The choice of oil is essential for the success of the product: it is preferable to use sweet almond or sunflower seed oil, it is better to avoid olive oil. In a bowl, add three tablespoons of honey and three of oil. We mix until a homogeneous mixture is obtained and adjust the density by adding, if necessary, more honey. We distribute the mixture on damp hair, from root to tip, with the help of a wide-toothed comb, then cover the hair with a shower cap or transparent film. After half an hour, rinse with warm water and then proceed with a specific shampoo for dry hair.

Alternatively, we can prepare a more nourishing and protective mask for dry hair by adding other ingredients. Take a jar of plain yogurt and pour into a bowl, add two tablespoons of honey and the crushed pulp, preferably pureed, of an avocado or two kiwis and up to a maximum of four tablespoons of sweet almond oil or sunflower seeds, until the correct density is found. We distribute the mixture on damp hair, from root to tip, with the help of a wide-toothed comb, then cover with a shower cap or transparent film. After half an hour we proceed to remove the residues of the mask by directly making a specific shampoo for dry hair.

For frizzy hair, we can opt for a very simple mask based on egg and apple cider vinegar. In a bowl, beat a whole egg with the addition of two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar until the mixture is homogenous. If the mixture is too fluid for a stable application on the hair, we can increase the density by adding white yogurt until the desired density is obtained. We apply the mixture on damp hair and cover it with a transparent film, after fifteen minutes we proceed to rinse by doing the usual shampoo directly where at the normal dose we will add a teaspoon of apple vinegar or rice vinegar.

Alternatively, if we do not like the smell of vinegar, we can use the juice of a filtered lemon and a jar of white yogurt. We mix the lemon juice and yogurt and then add up to two tablespoons of honey to adjust the density. We apply the mixture on damp hair and cover it with a transparent film, after half an hour we proceed to rinse and shampoo.

For oily hair we proceed to prepare a pre-wash mask based on bicarbonate and lemon. We take the juice of a lemon and after filtering it we pour it into a bowl where we are going to add two tablespoons of bicarbonate and one of aloe juice. To this mixture we add hot water, slowly, stirring with a spoon until we reach the desired density. We apply the mixture on damp hair and cover it with a transparent film, after half an hour we proceed to rinse the hair by making a mildly aggressive shampoo, therefore not specific for oily hair, to avoid that too much removal of the grease forces the scalp to produce sebum in excess to balance its hydro-lipid mantle.

If we don’t want to make a mask, we can opt for a pre-wash lotion for oily hair. Macerate two fresh mint leaves in two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and four tablespoons of water in a bowl for three hours. After three hours we filter our mixture and put the liquid in a spray bottle (like the one for indoor plants). Spray our mixture on the scalp and dry hair and leave it on for about half an hour, covering the hair with a transparent film. We proceed to rinse with a mild shampoo.

For damaged hair we can prepare a banana and oil based mask. We put a banana in the blender by adding three soup spoons of sweet almond oil, let it blend until a homogeneous mixture is obtained: in case of excessive fluidity, add another piece of banana. We apply the mask on damp hair and wrap the hair in a transparent film. After twenty minutes we proceed to rinse the hair first with warm water and then we shampoo.

You will be surprised by the effectiveness of these homemade masks admiring your hair, their shine and their vigor. The advantages of these home cosmetic compounds are many: low cost, zero environmental impact and the preciousness of the time dedicated to ourselves.
