PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM, the new offer with a high ecological value by Favini, a leading company for luxury packaging papers, arrives today at the trade fair Luxepack Monaco, the place to discover the latest environmentally friendly innovations.

Since the early 90’s, Favini’s R&D laboratories have applied the principles of the circular economy to paper production. The eco-innovation process has continually developed and improved over the decades, adding more and more valuable elements, until reaching the generous and structured offer that now takes the name of PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM.

Packaging and sustainability: From raw materials to design, including recyclability

According to Favini, an ecological packaging must be developed according to some basic rules: The raw materials must be respectful of the environment, the design must not only be functional and aesthetically appealing but must aim at reducing waste in an ingenious way, and, finally, the packaging should be reusable or recyclable.

In the case of paper-based packaging, Favini has studied solutions that can meet the most challenging needs: Ecological credentials alongside technical performance and a pleasantly tactile and aesthetic aspect.

What is PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM

© Favini

The PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM mark is the guarantee that the papers are environmentally friendly regarding:

  • Eco-innovative raw materials from:
  • Paper recycling, with at least 40% pcw or FSC™ Recycled certification
  • Creative reuse (upcycling) or alternative fibres to tree pulp
  • Use of renewable energy
  • Offsetting of any unavoidable CO2 emissions
  • Biodegradability & Recyclability, and an eco-innovative process

The PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM offer is based on four pillars. The first concerns the fibres used for ecological papers: To alleviate the pressure on forests, the use of recycled fibre from 40% to 100% is preferred, from upcycling processes of by-products of other industries or by using alternative fibre sources other than the tree.

The focus of the second and third pillars concerns the sole use of renewable electricity and the zero impact of the finished product, by trustworthy measurement and the offsetting of unavoidable CO2 emissions.

The last pillar ensures that the PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM range is biodegradable and recyclable, is CW, FSC or FSC Recycled certified and is produced in Favini, where the production process is monitored to reduce water and energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM includes Alga Carta, the precursor of our paper ranges created from the concept of circular economy and which moves on to Crush, Remake and Refit, the innovative ecological papers that are produced and start by the upcycling of materials respectively from the agro-food industry, leather goods and textile sector, thus entering into a state of industrial symbiosis.

Tree Free, with 75% bamboo and 25% cotton, and Shiro Echo, with 100% recycled fibres, are also included in this distinguished ecological offer. In addition to PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM, custom made papers that correspond to these four pillars are also embraced within this paper family.

Sweet news: Crush Cacao

At the most important trade show for luxury packaging, Favini, as well as launching PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM, presents a “delicious” new paper: Crush Cocoa, with 15% process residue of cocoa bean husks from chocolate production.

A trustworthy solution for packaging and a confirmation of the company’s intent to innovate in the direction of sustainability!

Why “ECHOSYSTEM”?

ECOSYSTEM is a term borrowed by Favini from world of ecology, as it represents a set of elements that create a dynamic balance in evolution within an environment, just like the PAPER FROM OUR ECHOSYSTEM offer.

The prefix ECHO, or the returning of a sound, underlines Favini’s strong interest in the circular economy and so, instead of allocating waste materials to the landfill, it allows them to “return” to the value creation chain.
